The Best Outfits to Wear to a Photoshoot

Hello to everyone and anyone who is reading this! Whether you're a photographer, a potential client, or just another person who wants some ideas of outfits to wear to your photo session, I am here to help! These are just some of my opinions, and personally whatever your mind is leaning towards is probably a good choice! Every person is different and I think it is important to be unique especially when you're having photos taken of you. Once again, this is my opinion and if you have an idea/comment to share feel free to comment on this blog, I love hearing my audience's feedback!

If you're struggling to figure out what to wear to your photoshoot, that's okay, everyone tends to second guess themselves on what to wear to a session. I believe that your outfit(s) depend on what type of photoshoot you are going to. For example, I would reccomend wearing a different outfit to your headshots than to an engagement session. First, I am going to start with Senior Photos! For senior photos, I typically offer 2 outfits. I always reccomend bringing atleast one dress or skirt. This makes some of the photos more formal and dresses/skirts can really show off your personality/uniqueness! Here are some examples of some clients I had that wore a dress/skirt for a session.

As you can see, they are all wearing dresses, but all 3 photos have completely different vibes to them. I also think that all 3 of these sessions did such a great job of reflecting each of these ladies' outfits! If you are having a senior session soon and have the choice of wearing two outfits, I always reccomend wearing a more relaxed and comfortable outfit as a second choice. Something like jeans and a t-shirt, or a top and leggings. Something a little different that the first outfit. Here are some examples of those.

These photos are from the same sessions above, just different outfits. All three outfits are cozier looking and less formal, which I love! I think mixing up your outfits for senior photos is such an important part. This not only gives you variety to chose from when you get your photos back, but also it shows your personality in 2 differnt ways!

(As for the guys, I think switching it up is important as well.) I always reccomend wearing 2 differnt styles of clothes, so maybe one formal outfit and one more laid-back. For example, maybe one outfit is just jeans and a flannel and the other is cackies and a button up.)

Now that senior photos are covered, I would like to talk about couples photos or engagement photos! I think that this type of session can be harder to pick outfits for because now there are 2 of you that need to have an outfit. I like to tell my clients to try and match but not be too extreme with that. I like to say if the girl is wearing neutral colors, have the guy wear neutral colors but with a pattern or vise versa. Here are a few examples of couples/engagement photos I have done where the couple matches but not too well!

As you can see, all three outfits are very similar color schemes but aren't too crazily similar. If you are a couple who is more laid-back, I think having some fun with outfits is also a great think to do with couokes photos! For example, I had a couple wear some more laid-back outfits that were still super cute, and for bonus points, they brought their dog!!

Couples sessions can either be super laid-back or more formal but either way, these sessions are always a great way to express your personality as a couple! Couples sessions tend to be some of my favorite sessions because there can be so much variety to the photos and every couple has a different vibe they bring to the session.

Now that couples photos/engagements are covered, lets talk about maternity! Lot's of clients tend to think that maternity photos have to be fancy or that you have to wear a huge dress, but in reality maternity photos can be whatever you want them to be! I love to do sessions with big fancy dresses as much as I love to do sessions that are more laid-back. For example, I had a client wear yoga pants and a sports bra because that is what she wanted and that is what she felt comfortable in during the session. I also had a client wear jeans and a t-shirt. I encourage maternity clients to wear whatever suits them and whatever you feel comfortable wearing for the hour long session. Here are some photos of a more laid-back session I did with my client, and to be honest, these were some of my favorite photos ever! (So this proves that even if you don't wear a fancy dress, you can still get some amazing photos back.)

These photos turned out so beautiful and I am obsessed with the aesthetic they wanted. These are a prime example of why it doesn't matter what you wear to maternity photos! I believe this goes with every photoshoot but specifically maternity, since the focus is on the baby bump!

In conclusion, I encourage my clients to wear whatever they want, but if they ever have questions or ask for advice on what to wear I am always here to help. Photoshoots are very important to me as well as my clients and the most important thing to me is to make sure they feel comfortable and confident.
