This blog is not going to tell you to hire your friend with a camera or use your aunt who does photography as a hobby. This blog is going to tell you how to hire a wedding photographer who will be amazing for your day and ways you might be able to save money on their packages. This blog is not true for every wedding photographer but is true to me as a wedding photographer and even if I am not your vibe, I know others who offer this or something similar.

Find a Photographer with a "Destinations List"
Find a photographer who has a list of venues/locations they want to travel to. Most photographers with these lists offer discounts or even photograph your wedding for free if you pay for their travel and stay. Understand though, that if you do qualify for one of the venues or locations that pricing may still be a bit higher depending on where the photographer is located and how far away that place is from them. I typically offer discounts to clients who live in Europe or on the East-Coast, but other than that I don't really have a destinations list. However, you can still reach out and see if you qualify for that discount.
Having a Winter Wedding or Off-Season Wedding.
Some photogrsphers (not all) offer discounts when it is their "off-season." For me, my off-season is between November-March. If a client wants to book with me in one of those months I tend to offer up to $1000 off any package. Most wedding photographers tend to like to have more free time in the summer, so if they are able to book a wedding in their off-season, it is great for them. I personally love booking winter weddings or even early spring/late fall. My off-season does change year to year so don't hesitate to reach out even if your wedding is in October or April, sometimes I still offer those discounts!
Having a week-day wedding.
Having a week day wedding or even a Sunday wedding can get you discounts not ony on the photographer at times but also venues. I know some venues here in Central Oregon that offer discounts if you decide to have a wedding on a weekday, so this is a bonus if you decide to hire me as your photographer & if you find a venue that offers those discounts. I tend to offer discounts on weddings that are M-Th. I tend to not offer any discounts on Friday, Saturday or Sunday weddings as those are typically still popular days for weddings. If you are having a weekday wedding in my off-season, that will definately get you bonus points!
There are most likely other ways to save money on a wedding photographer, like hiring someone who is new to the industry, but ultimately, you want to still hire someone who you can trust, who you resignate with, and someone who's style you love. If you want to save money but still hire me as your photographer, here are some ways you may be able to do that! If you have any questions on this list or about pricing, just reach out and we can chat!
